I bought my daughter the Apple Pencil 2 but she has the iPad 7th gen will it not work?

So i have an iPad (7th gen) and I bought an Apple Pencil (2nd gen) it won’t let me connect my Apple Pencil. How can I connect the pencil to my iPad ? Or is the Apple Pencil 2 only compatible with the iPad Pro ?

You purchased the wrong version Pencil.

You need to purchase the 1st gen Apple pencil with the silver, chrome , metalised top section with the magnetic cap.
