Mail closing quickly after opening on iPad Air

How I eventually fixed - settings - email app - switch off image auto load - go back to email - open email with images- click at the top load hidden images - close email- settings- email app - switch on auto load - close settings - new email should work as normal

i tried all suggestions on thread with no luck - but this fixed it for me
