Mail program problem

My Mail program has been sluggish but as a result of an overnight upgrade I'm stuck in a loop with message Mail Message Import preparing to import --have tried all the usual going in and coming back in after restarts and shutdowns.

Try this:

  • Quit Mail
  • Go to Finder
  • Hit Shift-Command-G to 'goto' a folder.
  • Enter ~/Library/Mail/V8/MailData as the folder to visit
  • Remove all files called anything starting with "Envelope index" (or just drag them to the desktop to 'hide' them from Mail).

For example:

Envelope indexEnvelope Index

Envelope Index-shm

Envelope Index-wal

  • Then re-open Mail.

It should start the Mail Upgrade again but may finish this time.

A full upgrade should take under an hour generally, but it depends on how many eMails you have.
