If you have your active SIM card in your old iPhone then you can remove the SIM card form that iPhone and install it in your new iPhone 12. If your carrier provides and requires you to use a 5G specific SIM card then you can contact your carrier and have them issue an active SIM card that you can use to activate your iPhone. In short, contact your carrier.
