Quick transfer won’t work

Hi there, I have a 128 GB (using 33 GB in total) iPhone 6s which I am trying to transfer to a new 64 GB iPhone 12 mini. It says that there is not enough storage space despite me only using 33 GB in total. I don’t want to restore from iCloud as I have to put in all the passwords again.

I recommend that you restore from the backup file on iCloud. This is because iCloud backups are encrypted and will have the passwords that can be saved and extend them during the restore process. There still will be apps that will require you to enter passwords again BUT these will be the same apps that will have asked you to re-enter passwords even if you would have been successful with the Quick Start method.

I have always liked to get as much storage space that I can afford. If you have no issues getting a 128GB iPhone 12 Mini then do so. But, do not do it just so you can address the current issue. If you have only 33GB data (that includes System and Other Files) and you believe that you will not get close to using 64GB then you do not need to upgrade to 128GB. In today's environment, 64GB can be filled very fast and, in my opinion, 128GB is the minimum that one should get.

You should be able to get by with 64GB if you sync your photos in iCloud and choose the optimize photos feature on your iPhone's Photos app.
