how to delete upper numbers on an ipad key board
my ipad key board has numbers $ signs etc on the upper portion of each, if i am not careful i get the number rather than a letter. How do i delete
the upper portion

You may find that disabling the Keyboard key-flicks feature will be more to your liking:
Settings > General > Keyboard > Enable Key Flicks - set to OFF
