Recommended dock for 2016 MacBook Pro

I am looking for a docking station for my 2016 MacBook Pro. The reason I am asking for help is that I have been reading about docking stations on Amazon and I noticed that nobody is happy. Complaints range from dual 4k monitors don't work right, BigSur is not compatible, power to MacBook Pro is not enough, and connections are not always good. For my use I want to get the docking station and build out with peripherals. I would add: 4k monitor, SSD, Hard drive, iPad, Series 7 watch, small thumb drives, etc. I would also want to explore backing up my data with apple's new APFS drive format with TimeMachine. I currently don't have a backup drive yet. I was reading that with BigSur OS X 11.1 there might be issues using TimeMachine with APFS drive formatting? Being new to Apple devices I am not familiar with the problems when merging hardware and software together with spans maybe 6 or 7 yrs. I am anticipating problems but I am not sure.

So now I'm doing this — The drive links to dock with Firewire 800 The dock links to the MBP 20122 M1 with Thunderbolt 2 cable fitted with Apple's official Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter. The drive makes noises when I connect its data cable. But it never mounts. Does this have anything to do with how the drive is formatted? Is the hub messing things up (but why now and not before), so that I should buy the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter? Running MacOS 12.5.1. Thanks in advance.
