Notification banners won't go away on MacBook Air

Hey, I have a Macbook Air from spring 2020 now running on macOS Big Sur v 11.1. Since I upgraded to Big Sur, banner notifications won't go away automatically after a few seconds like they used to under Catalina. They stay there indefinitely until I discard them by clicking on the x. I used to swipe them right if I wanted to get rid of them before they timed out, but since the update they come back after a few minutes if I didn't click the x. I checked the settings, everything's set on banners, not alerts so they should disappear after a while and I can't find any other options that would let me discard notifications for good by just swiping them right instead of having to click on the x. Is this the new normal? Thanks for your help.

Boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and check again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

That most definitely was not the case previously. However I think you are right in as much as Apple seem finally to have sorted banners out. I did have multiple crashes a couple of weeks ago with Big Sur, none since 11.2.3 so maybe, just maybe , they've got most of the bugs out - just in time to give us beta version of MacOs12 with a whole new set of bugs 😜

By clicking on the notification the little X appears so that part is overcommable but the fact that some appear and stay is not. Specially work some ones they remain whatever they setting.

One of the things most frustrating with Apple and other tech firms is they never acknowledge issues. A statement just saying "we recognise this could have been better and will address it"even if they can't commit to a timetable would be a little comfort

I'm having this issue too, except there is no tiny x to click on. I have 2 banner notifications, one a missed call (Potential Spam), and the other is a call I answered on my iPhone. NOTHING will make them go away. I deleted them from my phone, I've clicked on them, double clicked on them, swiped them in every direction, and they won't go away. I had to swipe my safari page to the left so that I can close the pages that are covered by the notifications. I also can't open new safari pages without having my safari screen squished to the left. ALL my notifications are set to banner, and I have even tried turning off notifications for FaceTime, but I can't get rid of them!!

Since I've upgraded to Big Sur I've been strongly annoyed by notifications. I work in a big corporation so I get new notifications every minute. I'm so busy that until today I didn't have time to figure out why notifications have been so annoying.

Please solve this the way Apple has always solved our issues:

1) Listen to our feedback.

2) Provide a workaround, a way to go back to the previous behavior by modifying a property using the terminal.

3) Add the choice in the UI in the next update.

Thanks,

Another issue is that you have to dismiss them one by one. Before you were able to dismiss the whole bunch, but now you have to hide them one by one.

I just changed some of my alerts to banners, hopefully that will help. Unfortunately there are some I can't change because my company has locked them in alert mode.

So until you fix this and allow us to have the previous behavior (Catalina), it will still be annoying.

I keep getting an alert about USB being disabled (it's not, it's still working), and despite clicking the "x" to close it, it continues to show up. As a neurologically divergent person I find this distracts me and breaks my concentration, and once the flow is broken, it's hard to get back. It also shows when presenting. This happens multiple times a day and is increasingly annoying.

Please, Apple, be the change you want to see and make our lives easier. Allow us to say "please don't tell me this again" on alerts.
