Mac Mini M1 ethernet connection through Thunderbolt Display not working

Hey! So I just got a Mac Mini M1 for Christmas. I hoooked it up to my old 27" Thunderbolt Display which has acted as a USB-hub and Ethernet-bridge for my 2019 MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt to USB-C adaptor.

However, with the Mac Mini, while I the display works, I cannot seem to get ethernet to work. The Network settings say "Display Ethernet: Not Connected. The cable for Display Ethernet is connected, but your computer does not have an IP address." I have tried renewing leases, have restarted my switch and router, to no avail.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mac mini 2018 or later
