How do I restore a third party application (Family Tree Maker) from Time Machine backup to my new iMac?

Applications often consist of various files (the application itself, preferences, Application Support files, etc.) so to recover the application you need to recover all of them.


Usually, you would run Migration Assistance to restore your applications from Time Machine to your new Mac, and it copies all applications and all support files.
