New iPhone 12 setup

I set up new iPhone 12 Pro. Old iPhone (7+) was next to new one. Transferred data okay and everything looked good. But, the old phone number was not transferred. I understand that I am not to put the old SIM card into the new phone. How do I activate the cellular service on the new iPhone?

Do you have a new SIM in the new iPhone? If no, then you do need to transfer your SIM.

The new SIM was in the iPhone. When I activated the phone, all the data transferred, but the new SIM was not activated - the old phone SIM's still works.
