forgotten my MacBook Pro firmware password

Hi - I have forgotten my MacBook Pro 2011 firmware password. The laptop was purchased in 2011. Unfortunately I don't have the copy of invoice since it was purchased long time ago. But apple service centre told me that they cannot reset the firmware password without original receipt. Please advise.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

Hi,

Following method could work on your MacBook Pro.

You may be able to reset, change, or disable the firmware password using the same method you used to set the password to begin with, this requires booting into Recovery Mode:

  1. Reboot the Mac and hold down Command+R to enter recovery mode
  2. At the Utilities screen, go to the Utilities menu bar item and choose “Firmware Password Utility”
  3. Select to turn the Firmware Password to OFF

If this is successful it will tell you the firmware password is off.
