Repurchase

I bought an ipad online and I have not opened it yet. I purchased with my credit card and I received apple gift cards for Christmas. Can I call and have them refund the ipad and then I repurchase with the gift cards or will I just have to send it in for a full refund and then repurchase another ipad?
