Applt tv issues connecting to bose surround sound

I just bought an apple tv 4k and started set up. I own a bose sound touch theater system that has a main box that all of your add ons connect to. I have a roku and dvd player connected to it. I connected my new apple tv and the picture/sound wont come up. I plugged the apple tv directly into an hdmi plug on my tv and it works. Why will it not work by plugging into my bose system. Ive already completed software updates on bose and apple tv my dvd and roku work just fine

It just seems odd that the apple tv and receiver are not responding.

Possibly the video settings and audio settings on the Apple TV are not correct for passthrough via the receiver.

  • For video (from 2nd link above): Hold Menu and Volume Down for 5 seconds, then release. Your Apple TV will switch to a new resolution every 20 seconds. Select OK to choose a resolution when you get a valid picture, or Cancel to quit.
  • For audio: You may have to set the Audio Format to Dolby Digital 5.1, if your Bose doesn’t handle PCM Multichannel.

… that will not allow me to view with the surround sound.

That is not entirely true. Your TV may be able to passthrough audio to the receiver via HDMI-ARC. This may require an audio passthrough setting on your TV.

For Apple TV, you may have to set the Audio Format to Dolby Digital 5.1, if your TV or Bose doesn’t handle PCM Multichannel.

Verify that all HDMI ports on the HT system are exchangeable and similar for features for connected devices. Sometimes the various ports can have different properties, that might make some of them less suitable for your newest connected device.

Try testing by having the Apple TV use the HDMI port that was previously used by the Roku or DVD player. That might help pinpoint if the initial HDMI port is the cause of the issue.

Thanks for the help but i tried it and the apple tv is not responding. Only way to view it is to plug directly into tv hdmi but then that will not allow me to view with the surround sound. Any other suggestions? It just seems odd that the apple tv and receiver are not responding. Receiver responds perfectly fine with roku and dvd blue ray player.
