So recently I decided to use my apple ID for Imessage instead of my contact number. Now I am trying to use my contact number instead and it's been saying waiting for activation for a few days now. Any advice ?

Try and turn iMessages OFF and then back ON again.
Open Settings ➔ Messages ➔ iMessage : Set this to OFF.
Turn your iPhone OFF at this point. Then turn it back ON again.
Open Settings ➔ Messages ➔ iMessage : Set this to ON
See if you can get iMessages activated again.
