What's the point of face unlock if I've still got to swipe up afterwards?

So what's the point of face unlock again? I still have to swipe up after it's unlocked. Why? I mean, I looked at it, isn't that how apple has determined I am interested in interacting with it? so why in the world is there a second gesture that's needed in order to actually unlock it? what's the point? can I bypass the swipe so that I can just start using the phone after unlocking it with my face?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

You cannot bypass the SWIPE UP to get to the home screen. It functions this way for a reason. If you had notifications then they appear on the screen as soon as you unlock your iPhone using Face ID. You can then review your notifications and then SWIPE UP. If Face ID is successful and the iPhone automatically went to the home screen then you will have missed looking at your notifications. It would then take another gesture to get to notifications from Home Screen.
