Bob Gamble,

Nice job catching that screen before it powered off! You are correct that seeing that screen may indicate a battery issue. How does the battery health look for that device? You can check in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Do you see any alerts there about unexpected shutdowns? I have the latest iOS Version 6.3 for my Series 2 Apple Watch and there is no battery/battery health info in settings. But, at this point my best guess is that I need a new battery so I’ll send it in for service as you suggested. I believe I bought it in 2016 and the battery has not been replaced.

I did an unpairing and repairing with my Apple Watch 2, headed out on a run with the ambient temperature of 40F and it happened again, like clockwork. I noticed when it shut down that it showed a red flash symbol in the upper left hand corner and what looked like wires running back and forth horizontally. I’m guessing the battery needs to be replaced, but it was 70% when it shut down.

Was the weather within the operating temperatures listed here? Keep Apple Watch within acceptable operating temperatures. Outside of those temperatures issues may occur such as the device powering off.
