Reachability & deciding between 12 Pro & 12 Pro Max

1st time smartphone user(!) who can't decide whether to buy

iPhone 12 Pro Max or 12 Pro.  Larger display & screen would be easier

to see & read but harder to use 6.7" device with one hand.  How

much will Reachability mode help to make 12 Pro Max easier to use in general

with one hand, or is it a feature that isn't very useful to have?  Does it

only work on the main screen to make the widgets lower (bottom half of screen),

or does Reachability mode still appear on future screens after you click on one

of the widgets?  I don't know how long the Reachability mode would be

enabled.  Thanks for your help!

yeah, I think the Max would be a great phone, just might not be so easy to one-hand it..

this page toward the bottom shows what Reachability looks like..

Use gestures to navigate your iPhone with Face ID - Apple Support

The feature is at the iOS level.. so it doesn't matter if you are on the Home Screen, or in an app playing a game or whatever.

If you are on the Home Screen and you can't reach the top row of app icons, use Reachability and it will pull the upper half of your screen down to the lower half. It will stay that way for 10 seconds or until you tap something, whichever occurs first.

Same thing applies to operating in an app. Say a credit card app has a little back button at the top of the screen to get back to your transaction summary.. use gesture to activate Reachability, tap the back icon and it'll navigate back and pop your screen back up to normal. or.. if you take to long to tap that back button, after 10 seconds it will pop back up to normal.

If you accidentally activate the feature, you don't have to wait 10 seconds, you can swipe up or tap the upward arrow to bring the screen back to normal.

Hopefully that answers your question. I think the main takeaway is that it's a momentary thing.

I think Reachability is a great feature.. although I don't think a lot of people know about it.

I use it quite frequently when using my device one handed.

It's very easy to use once you understand the gesture. It's a quick swipe downward at the bottom of the screen.

It will shift the entire screen downward, doesn't matter what app you are using. This allows you to tap something that would have otherwise been out of reach when you are using your device one handed.

I personally think that the Max size is too big. I have the 12 Pro and it's about perfect for Reachability. The larger screen I think you might still need 2 hands. Of course some will have larger hands than I!

There are other features that can increase text size on the display and a zoom functionality that acts like a sort of magnifying glass for you screen.

Thanks, Chris0107. So does the Reachability mode work from app to app - does it stay enabled/on all the time from screen to screen, or app to app (or within each app)? Coming from so much work on a laptop, I had been leaning toward the Pro Max since the screen is bigger, and I'm "not 30" anymore(!) so the Max would be easier on the eyes too. I guess I would use the phone with 2 hands when possible but Reachability does sound very helpful, as does the zoom feature you mentioned.

Thanks! So even if the Reachability feature is always enabled in the Settings, and I don't turn it off in the Settings, it will still "disappear" after 10 seconds and revert back to a normal screen view....but I guess that within 10 seconds, I would most likely be tapping something on the screen anyway, which would cause the normal view to reappear...so I see what you mean - Reachability view on the screen doesn't always stay on by itself. I will look at the link you posted more in depth. Thanks!
