2 Factor Authentication Issues

This is a follow up to an issue I was having back in April 2020 which I couldn't get resolved despite Apple's help. I have found an answer and I thought I would post in reply, but the thread I started has been locked.

So - very simple fix - I had my Apple TV box registered to my Apple ID and being an older model it was incompatible with 2FA. I simply removed it temporarily from my profile and hey presto, I could set up two factor authentication again. Any devices on your Apple ID / account which don't support this service will cause loss of functionality on all other devices too.
I can't believe the lengths I went to with Apple to try and get this sorted and they were completely unforthcoming, to the extent that they left me with the impression that I had been "banned" from using 2FA.
If you're having the same problem please try this workaround.
