Disk Utility crashes with timeout error when creating a large image, image vanishes

This behaviour can be reproduced on my machine:

Use DiskUtility to create a DMG-image from an existing folder.

Use a "large" folder, in my case: approx. 7k files, approx 30GB in size

Use "compressed and 256-bit-AES-encrypted" as image format - this will automatically create a readonly-image

Let Diskutility work, this may take a while.

After a few minutes Diskutility will show an error message indicating that a timeout was violated. In the finder i can still observe the DMG-file growing and then (i assume after creation was finished) the DMG-file vanishes.
