Runaway Process? Brand New MBP M1 Running Very Slow

I've had this MBP with the M1 chip for almost 2 weeks and I keep having this issue. I use Google Chrome for my job and frequently have 6-10 tabs open. I bought this computer to try to fix my speed issues, but I this machine keeps heating up, running a fan, and showing high CPU usage from kernel task, windows server, and messages.

Typically, I will have the following open at the same time:

Chrome, signed in with work account, 5 tabs

Chrome, signed in with personal account, 2-3 tabs

Messages

Notes

Occassion use of Preview to view images

Slack

That's it. Sometimes everything runs well, other times I'm stuck in a lagging slowness with the fan going. Last week, after Apple Care was no help, I removed Microsoft Office's auto-update process and altered Chrome so it only checks for updates every 2 weeks. I thought that fixed the issue, but here we are again.

In case this is relevant, I have night shift mode disabled.

My EtreCheck report says there is a runaway process. How can I figure out what it is? Thank you for any help!

Messages is the obvious culprit. Is it possible you have an abundance of messages to sync? If so it might take a long time, but two weeks is more than enough.

If restarting your Mac doesn't immediately resolve it, and you don't want to go through the tedium of perhaps removing various Messages accounts in an effort to isolate the cause to one or more of them, then contact Apple. That's an absurd CPU demand. There is literally no time for your Mac to do anything else.
