Memorex blank CD-R's spit right back out

Hi geniuses!

A while back I bought a stack of Memorex 52x CD-R's from my local big box retailer. They sat on the shelf for a while awaiting my need to burn a disc. That day came and, low and behold, none of the discs work. The blank discs I had before work, the discs I found after work, but these Memorex's do not.

So what's wrong here? Did I get a bad batch of discs? Is that even possible? Is there something wrong with my drive that just doesn't like these?

For the record, I'm using a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver (733mhz) under OS X 10.4.11 w/ all the avail security updates, etc. The CD burner is a Lite-on LTR-12102C, which I believe is stock (at least, I never replaced it).

Thanks in advance for any ideas, helpful hints, sledgehammers you can offer.
