Exercise minutes

  1. Can you manually add "exercise minutes" in the Apple Health app (I don't mean activity or workout, only exercise minutes)?
  2. What apps can write to "exercise minutes"? Is it ONLY the Apple watch or is there any other program that can write to "Exercise minutes"?

Greetings RBSS,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We see from your post that you're interested in manually adding exercise minutes in the Health app on your iPhone, and you're interested in learning about other ways to capture those minutes automatically. It will be our pleasure to share some tips.

First, it's important to be aware that to close your rings you will need an Apple Watch. Since the Fitness app is included with watchOS, that device is necessary to fill and close the rings. That said, here are a few options we want to make you aware of:

  • Check out this link to understand your options when you Use the Health app on your iPhone or iPod touch
  • Scroll down to "Add information about your health" to learn how to manually enter workout data.
  • Then follow the guidance under "Choose which apps share information with Health"
  • Open this link to learn more about your options to Start an Apple Fitness+ workout
  • Note: "If you’re not wearing your Apple Watch, you can still start the workout, but your metrics (like calories burned) aren’t collected. Tap Work Out Without Watch to start the workout.”

Cheers to your health!
