Apple Fitness Plus, apple TV Mirroring

I purchased Apple One and own an apple watch. Trying to mirror apple fitness plus from my ipad to apple tv and it does not work. I have two apple tvs, iphone, two ipad, two imacs, two macbook pros and apple watch. I should be able to mirror/watch, correct? How do i get it to work on my tv? Thanks!

To watch Apple Fitness+ on a TV screen, you currently need have an Apple TV set-top box of 4th generation or later, and connect directly to that. No mirroring involved.

If the Afitness+ Video previews mirror perfectly to a smart TV, but the workouts themselves go to black screen, one must conclude that the workouts are programmed to NOT ALLOW mirroring. Why would this be if not to just force AppleTV purchases. I’m dipping my toe, pretty significantly, with an Apple Watch and IPhone, but this does not bode well for increased/continued subscriptions or expanded Apple product acquisition. Please reconsider this programming limitation. Thanks.

That is because those are just previews. Once a proper workout starts it is designed to be paired to the watch and is not the same as simply forwarding a video. However, they have been working on bringing that support. Just be aware that it will forward the video only and the metrics will remain tied to the iPhone/iPad.

It’s not forwarding anything... it’s screen mirroring. And if something has to be cut from view, or delayed, it can be the real time workout haptics WHEN mirroring is taking place. Many workouts don’t utilize a video, and I’m no programmer, but it seems like a simple if/when/then sorta situation.....

When mirroring it reverts to basic airplay to forward the video. All workouts on the app utilize a video and once started look for the pairing with the watch and that is how it’s designed. Once airplay support comes it will mean the video is forwarded, while the metrics remain on the original device.

I could not agree more. So disappointed. It is almost impossible to do a work out off my tiny little phone. I subscribe to Apple TV, have bought a watch and a phone and this is not enough of my hard earned money for Apple. It would have been a simple programming choice to have mirroring available. Apple, please let us know why this choice was not made as it clearly does not enhance the user experience. Thank you.

This is a user forum, you are not going to receive a response from Apple. Fitness Plus is completely separate from Apple TV Plus and airplay was not part of the support at launch. However, they are working on bringing airplay support. As above, it will be implemented to forward the video only while keeping metrics on the phone.
