I see now M1 SoC MBP— the SMC/NVRAM do not apply to this Mac, Intel Macs only !

I will add— the new normal since macOS Catalina 10.15.5 introduces battery health management, a feature designed to improve the lifespan of your Mac notebook's battery.

The Battery Health button appears in >System Preferences>Energy Saver/“Battery” in the newer macOS —this feature is limited to Mac laptops with Thunderbolt 3 ports. That equates to all MacBook Pro models released since late 2016 and the Retina-capable MacBook Air models released since 2018.

With the release of macOS 11.0.1 Big Sur see >System Preferences>Battery

Depending on your usage—on the mains as much as possible, I have seen my battery hang at 82%, 72%, right now it is 94%. This is all normal.

For battery management Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

you have a limited 14 days for a full refund or exchange for one that works as expected out of the box.

If you're having a similar issue,

Check to see if you have the "Optimized battery charging" setting activated.

You can locate it in System Preferences > Battery

"To reduce battery aging, your Mac learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it on battery."

In my opinion this feature is great as there is active care for your battery. If there becomes a time you feel you will need an entire full charge for those remote full days, then the off switch can be turned off for a day and automatically resumes or you can turn it off completely.

If you have this setting activated, try deactivating it and noting the current battery charge percentage, attaching the charging cord for some time and seeing if charging takes place as usual.

To turn on the battery charging percentage go to System Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar

then on the left of the window (that has Wi Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop etc. down the side) scroll down to and click on Battery under Other Modules and check "Show Percentage" and the percentage will appear in numerals in the menu Barr at the top right of your screen.

Riiiiight I see! Thank you for enlightening me, much appreciated.

I'm not entirely certain why but the only thing I toggled/changed was deactivating that setting and my battery started charging and is now at 100%

Initially when I noticed there may be an issue, it was puzzling why/how the percentage changed (i.e. 80% 83% etc.) but I figured that was simply because, once it managed to charge at the optimum time it got to that percentage before resting and anything above and beyond 80% would trigger optimization.

However currently the matter is no longer an issue hopefully it stays that way :) fingers crossed!

Thank you for your time and attention, they're much appreciated.
