Extremely slow charging ipad
My ipad takes over 5 minutes to charge 1%. Yes, I am using an apple charger and the green light is on. Any fixes out there?

We have 4 Apple chargers. Two say 10W and the other two I cannot find the wattage on them. They are the smaller ones that may have come with iphones vs. ipads.

Not positive on the year, I think it is 2 years old and possibly 3. Operating system is 14.3. Model: A1673 - IPAD Pro 9.7
The green light I am referring to is on the IPAD itself, the battery symbol in the upper right hand corner that turns green when it is plugged into the charger. The charger is the actual charger that comes with the IPAD when purchased.
What iPad year and model do you have and what iOS/iPadOS is it running?
Genuine Apple power/charging adapters do not have a green light.
What kind of charger are you using with this iPad and is there stated wattage printed on the charger you are using?
A 5W (1A @5V) iPhone Power Adapter, if is charges the iPad at all, will be very slow.
The majority of iPad models require a minimum of 10-12W (2.0-2.4A @5V) to reliably charge; more recent models will charge at a maximum charging rate of 18W (1.5A @12W) from a USB-PD compliant Power Adapter.
Thanks for your reply. Seems odd though that I never use to have a problem charging the ipad with these chargers. I will purchase a new charger and see if that helps. I kind of wonder though if it isn't the ipad itself because I cannot reply to these comments on the ipad. It just cranks and cranks. Seems like it is extremely sluggish lately. I always have to go upstairs and use the regular desktop computer to reply.
Yeah,
The small iPhone ones are ONLY 5W chargers that are really NOT powerful enough to charge an iPad.
DO NOT charge iPads with the small, 5W charger. It will take forever for any iPad to charge with the small cube power/charging adapter.
The 10W adaptes areJUST sufficient enough to charge any iPad, but seeing this particular iPad is a 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro, the 10W power/charging blocks DO charge the battery, in the more powerful iPad Pros, more slowly.
Between 4-6, or so, hours to charge that 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro with a 10W Apple power/charging adapter block.
If you want to speed up the charging, either move up to Apple's 12W power/charging adapter or Apple's 20W USB-C power/charging block and the purchase of Apple's USB-C to Lightning connector cable either in the 1m length or 2m length.
I believe your 9.7 inch iPad Pro CAN fast charge.
A 9.7 inch iPad Pro battery will charge between 3-4 hours, or so, with the standard 12W power/charging adapter block.
The 20W USB-C power/charging adapter block and USB-C to Lightning cable will charge your iPad between 2-3 hours, or so.
I think you are charging your 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro with tbe wrong power/charging adapter blocks.
Best of Luck to You!
You should note that whilst your iPad Pro 9.7” (A1673) can be charged using an 18W or greater USB-PD compliant Power Adapter, the iPad will charge at its maximum supported charge rate of 12W.
Your iPad does not support USB-PD charging profiles; a USB-PD Power Adapter, regardless of a higher rating, will only provide 12W power (2.4A @5V).
I thought all iPad Pro models support fast charging.
Where did you find the info to the contrary for the 2016, 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro models.
Both of my 2015/2016 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models support fast charging.
I have been fast charging my older 12.9 iPad Pro models for nearly a year now.
If you know the source of this info, I'd like to note and save this for future use.
Michel.
Some where on the changer is a Watt rating?
Is the Apple adapter on 10W or 12W power/charging adapter.
The two small ones, what I can read is, Input 100-240V 50/60HZ 0.15A Output 5V
It is really small print.
Thank you! I have been using the smaller chargers recently and did switch to the larger one now and it is charging faster. Thank you both for your help.
