problem downloading from photos to ebay

I download from an iPhone 12 Pro to "photos" on my Mac running Mac OS Big Sur Version 1.1. After I am done editing the photo I try to download into the eBay listing page. Almost every time I get a red triangle with an exclamation sign saying that there is problem with the jpeg. If I then drag image from "photos" to the desktop, I can then download to eBay from the desktop. This is a waste of time. It is the same image. Is the problem with eBay or with Apple?

Are your photos from your phone in HEIC format? If so, ebay can probably not use that format. Dragging to the desktop also converts to jpg.

You are exactly correct! When I drag the image from photos it is HEIC, and when it is placed on the desktop it converts to jpeg. Thanks for solving the mystery. Now I need to get eBay with the new format.

You can if you wish, set your phone to take pictures in jpg format. However, if you do they will take twice as much space, and not work as well with live photos.

Personally I've decided I'd rather have the benefits of HEIC, and put up with the minor inconvenience of exporting before uploading to some websites.
