fan running

all of a sudden my fan started running at full loud speed and it will not stop.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

Please reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back with all wired peripherals (printers, scanners etc.) disconnected.

Do you use some heavy-consuming apps during that?

Are there any obstacles for mac for being ventilated properly?

These two are the good points to start looking for the actual problem if SMC doesn't fix that.
