ipad disabled for an hour at a time due to forgetting my passcode

That isn't what the instructions in the "Remove the passcode on an iPad that has a Home button" section of If you forgot the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled - Apple Support say to do..


You need to turn off the iPad before connecting to the computer and don't power it back on.

Then hold the Home button (and only the Home button) while connecting to the computer. See the excerpt below.


  1. Make sure that your iPad isn't connected to your computer.
  2. Press and hold the Top button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your iPad. Then connect your iPad to your computer while holding the Home button. Keep holding the Home button until you see the recovery mode screen.


Then continue with the remaining instructions.
