restored my phone 3x and still comes up with the disabled screen instead of the hello screen. any help?

OK - not good. If you're certain you followed all the steps correctly (recovery screen appeared, , then the only thing I can suggest is to contact apple support.

but - I've just read this section:

The Finder or iTunes will download software for your iPhone. If it takes

more than 15 minutes, your iPhone will exit recovery mode, and you'll

need to select your iPhone model above and repeat the steps to remove

the passcode.

Is it possible it is taking more than 15 minutes, and your phone is exiting recovery mode?

The process of restoring iPhone via Recovery Mode involves download of an iPhone Software to your computer. If you have slow connection download can take some long time and iPhone might exit the Recovery Mode.

I would say give it another go. Just make sure you do star your iPhone in recovery mode and that when your computer detects iPhone in such state make sure you click on Restore option, not Update.
