Wireless keyboard eating batteries

My wireless keyboard (2 battery type) has suddenly started eating batteries. Previously I could go for weeks or even months before having to change batteries. Recently I'm having to swap batteries daily. Even multiple times a day!

I use rechargeable batteries, and I assumed the batteries must have outlived their natural lifespan, but I just bought some new ones, and they're fully charged, but when I put them in the keyboard, it shows only 30% battery life remaining!

Is they keyboard past its pull date...?

Try the following in order as necessary:

1 - Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

2 - How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

3 - boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down.  Reboot normally and test.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Thank you for your reply, Old Toad!

I've tried #1 above, and discovered that it's not simply a matter of my keyboard eating batteries. Now my computer is also not recognizing my keyboard every time I reboot... which makes resetting a bit of a challenge! However, I did ultimately manage to reset PRAM. That doesn't appear to have helped the issue, as my computer still didn't recognize that I had a keyboard afterwards!

I'll continue trying the other suggestions....
