Can Time Machine simultaneously backup from an iMac’s internal HD and from an external HD to separate partitions on a 2nd dedicated HD? E.g. Partition 1 for iMac and partition 2 for the external HD.

I want to do this for 2 reasons.

  1. To repurpose old external hard drives for anti-theft storage in a safe deposit box.
  2. So I can easily make separate partition backups of my iMac stuff and photo library which is on its dedicated drive.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

No, your best bet is to make those backups using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. Then you can easily clone the internal drive to one partition and the external drive to a second partition. The other benefit to using CCC or SD, is that they make a bootable clone of the internal drive to fall back on.
