1)   Selecting the [command] [i] screen, what is the “sharded folder” option?

2)   Is there an app that will allow you to access an excel file across all Apple devices?

3)   When it comes to utilities I try to stay withing the Apple environment. Does Apple offer a program like “DropBox” or “OneDrive?” What is recommended to work across all Apple devices?

4)   I just purchased a new thumb drive to use as a Time Machine when I travel. Every time I try to manually drag a file or folder to it, I get “authenticate.” This is not the case on other external drives. How can I turn this function off?

  1. Its to make the folder shared on the network so other computers and devices can access it.
  2. iCloud can sync files across other Apple devices and can be accessed from non Apple devices through the icloud.com website.
  3. Apple offers iCloud Drive: link-> Set up iCloud Drive - Apple Support
  4. Time Machine is Apple’s software to make backups onto drives. When used as such, you cannot simply drag files onto the drive, MacOS automatically backups up to the drive being used with Time Machine. But no direct access is possible.

If you are using a drive simply to drag files, then it may have software preventing it from being accessed directly without authentication. You would need to explain exactly what you are using and how it was set up for further help.
