Need help setting up HomePod on my iPad

Setting up newly purchased HomePod Mini on my iPad. I know to plug in HomePod, watch for white circle and sounds, then click setup when I see it appear. Continue to see setup via Home, prefer to setup via my Apple iPad. Keeps suggesting that I setup via Home. I did a reset but home keeps popping up. Where am I going wrong. Want to setUp using iPad, not my iPhone which I previously used and couldn't get back to Apple vs Home.
