Macbook Air Photo Booth Camera not Working

Hi, so I've been having some issues with my camera not working while using Photo Booth. I am currently using a Macbook Air (2018), running MacOs Big Sur Version 11.1. The built-in camera seems to be working just fine when I use it on other apps (like facetime, or skype, or discord), but it doesn't work on Photo Booth. I've tried seeing if screentime was an issue, it wasn't; or if my camera permissions were wrong, there I found that Photo Booth didn't have its own icon requesting access. The green indicator flashes on while in Photo Booth, but the screen is black, and I can't press the button with the camera icon to take a photo or video. I've tried resetting the SMC but the issue is still not resolved. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Pablo_Ven,

It appears that you're having some trouble using Photo Booth on your Mac because the camera permissions were missing. Have you had the chance to restart your Mac since noticing this behavior? If you're unable to Take a photo or record a video in Photo Booth on Mac, we can try loggin in to another user account to see if the issue persists.

If it does, then try starting up your Mac in safe mode which can help you determine whether issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. Starting in safe mode will take a little longer than normal, because it verifies and repairs the directory, cleans caches, and loads only Apple-critical items.

Cheers.

I may have a solution for you- I had the same issue. Went through the whole apple support gauntlet, with no luck. SMC NVRAM resets, safe mode, new users, even reformatting and reinstalling on the HD. I finally figured it out, though. Since the upgrade to Big Sur, some of my Quartz plugins were invalidated. Removing them from /Library/Graphics/Quartz\ Composer\ Plug-Ins/ immediately solved the issue for me upon relaunching. The only way I was able to figure this out was by filtering through the console log stream while launching the application. I recommend the same process for you if my exact solution doesn't help, it may even be a different conflicting plugin in a nearby directory.
