12 pro max main camera stabilization sometimes does not work

In the camera settings ‘lock camera’ is enabled to prevent switching cameras while zooming. In video mode i select the 1x camera then start recording. While recording i zoom to 7x. Sometimes the image is very shaky which indicates to me that stabilization is off. Sometimes the image is very stable, indicating to me that stabilization is on. I am recording indoors in a dimly lit room and always focusing on the same subject about 15ft away. Is there an explanation for this behavior? Or is this a bug?

It is most likely a hardware issue with the rear camera image stabilization.

This can usually be fixed with a hardware repair through an Apple store. However, if they do not have a repair set up for it yet, it may be a replacement of the phone.
