MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.12
The profile connected to the posting indicates MacBook Air 13", running 10.12 which is Sierra. The posting here is in High Sierra 10.13. If running either Sierra 10.12 or High Sierra 10.13 Both macOS have a 10.12.6 and 10.13.6 which are totally up-to-date.
Now, if the intention is to upGRADE - this will depending on the age of the computer as to how new a macOS can be installed. The latest macOS is Big Sur macOS 11.1..
If considering the move to Big Sur - read this link very carefully and all details herein. Make sure this machine qualifies for the upgrade and extra special attention to the Empty Space Requirements for a successful installation. Further, the leap from Sierra or High Sierra to Big Sur brings many changes. It Does Not support any 32 bit applications / extensions at all. So Application compatibilities comes into play. Verify if the developers has updated Apps.
Lastly, make sure there is a Time Machine Backup BEFORE attempting the upgrade. Further, I suggest have two TESTED Clones each on separate external drives - Insurance incase Big Sur installation goes sideways.
Very lastly - if the machine can not upgrade to Big Sur - follow this link for older macOS versions
