Logic X

I have a 2012 Mac tower, and want to buy Logic X. I already have Logic 9 and run it on OS10.6.8

To be able to get "up-to-date" I have bought a new 2tb drive loaded with High Sierra (OS10.13.6) - apparently, my mac is so old (8years??) I was only able to download OS 10.13.6

I have now tried to download the latest Logic X - only to be stopped with a message saying "You must have OS15.7? to be able to down load Logic X

So I cannot download OS15.7 - because the machine is too old?

Can this be right? Surely a computer is a computer - why can I not download Catalina?

If all else fails - would I be able to buy an older version of Logic X that will run on High Sierra?

Any help appreciated.

If you have a Mac Pro Mid-2012 (MacPro5,1), it should support Mojave. Even the 2010 Mac Pro can run Mojave.

If you haven't bought Logic Pro X before, now you will need a Mac that runs at least Catalina to buy Logic Pro X. It doesn't have to be your Mac though:

  1. Find a buddy with a Catalina/Big Sur Mac.
  2. Ask them to create a temporary user account for you on it.
  3. When you log in the first time, skip all that Apple ID stuff in the "intro", you won't need it.
  4. Go straight to the App Store app and log in with your Apple ID.
  5. Buy Logic. It will download the basic app, some 1+ GB. Your buddy can delete it later.
  6. Log out of App Store, log out of this temporary user account.
  7. Tell your buddy to delete your user account on their Mac.
  8. Go back to your Mac.
  9. Logic Pro X will now appear in your App Store Purchased tab. Download it. You will be asked if you want to download the last compatible version for High Sierra.
  10. Download the complete Sound Library and have fun!

I've been through that a month ago, after delaying the upgrade from Logic Studio 9 for many years, upon reading that the brand new Logic 10.6 only runs on Catalina which is the last OS my MacBook Pro Mid-2012 can bear. I already had a Catalina partition installed, so I rebooted and bought Logic X finally, as long as I was "allowed" to. Then I went back to my "mission critical" El Capitan partition, downloaded v10.3.3, and there it is. (Running El Capitan for compatibility with "obsolete", "officially unsupported" but fully functional Firewire audio interfaces…)
