I have a MacBook air 13 inch early 2014 does it not support an OS upgrade past High Sierra? Every time I look for updates it shows nothing.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.12

It does qualify all the way up to and including Big Sur. Read over here on How to upgrade to Big Sur and especially read the Empty Space Requirements for successful installation.

Note: Big Sur does Not Support any 32 bit applications or extensions. Also, many already installed applications may require upgrades or updates to make them compatible wit the New macOS.

Before attempting the upgrade make sure a Time Machine Backup is done. It is suggested to have made two Tested Clones each to separate external drives - insurance if Big Sur goes sideways or is not to the users liking.
