I have had this problem since Mac High Sierra and on different machines and different builds. If I select View -> Sort-by -> Most Recent in iBooks it sometimes (more often than not) reverts to Title. Any idea how to have this setting fixed?
On iOS it remembers this setting fine so I don't think its those two apps interacting badly. Thanks.

Let's try starting up your Mac in safe mode. It prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up. Starting in safe mode will take a little longer than normal, because it verifies and repairs the directory, cleans caches, and loads only Apple-critical items. Have you tried to test this out using a dfferent user account on your Mac? You can create a new Admin account to test this behavior?

It appears that your Sort By settings are changing in Books. Are there any updates available for the Books App in the Mac App Store? If you log in to a different user account, does the issue persist?

I created a new account, tested it half-a-dozen times and it remembered the settings. So maybe my account/login. Anyway to force safe mode outside of using shift?
I am the only user of iBooks and, as normal, its auto-update so nothing to change/update.
If I am the only person having these issues may be something wrong with my icloud account - no idea what.
Hi, sorry for the delay, I have tried several times to get into safe mode via using shift but it does not work on my MBP, not sure why.
Nice tip, this seems to have resolved the problem (at least after half-a-dozen or so tests), though I don't know which app is the actual culprit. Thanks.
