lost apple gift card

Hello. We think we accidently threw away in the pile of wrapping paper, an unused Apple gift card given for Christmas. I have the card number on the reciept where I bought it at Walmart, is there a way to track if it was redeemed or cancel/ reisssue it if not redeemed? Any help is appreciated.
