Erased MacBook Air device via Find My iPhone

I erased my 2020 MacBook Air from Find My Devices and want to reinstall the OS, but whenever it is rebooted, it has a folder icon with blinking question mark or the triangle with blinking exclamation point. There is no start up device listed as an option to begin from. When I try and repair disk via Disk Utility, I get an notification that prevents me from doing so. I have reinstalled from Recovery mode, but it still comes up with a blinking icon error. Please advise on how I can reinstall the Big Sur OS without actually having the device with me (walking my daughter through it from another state). Thanks!
