No to either. AV software is useless. There are no Mac viruses to detect, and the many Trojans (malware YOU have to install in some manner) will go right past them.

The Mac already has a firewall built-in you can turn on in the System Preferences. But if your Mac connects to the Internet through a firewall enabled router, then there's no need to turn on the Mac's firewall. There's nothing for it to do since the router's firewall is already preventing anyone from seeing your Mac from the outside.

I think you don't need Virus and malware protecter, since Apple offer strong security utility which is included in macOS, called gatekeeper.
