I have a 2011 iMac running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I need to download office apps for my kids to do their home schooling but App Store says I need os 10.14 or later to download office apps.

There are no updates available from App Store to my os so what can I do?

Use an older version of Microsoft Office, or a product such as LibreOffice. Your Mac model can't be upgraded past High Sierra.

Microsoft no longer sells a version of MS Office that will run on your Mac.

As suggested, either look into an alternate office suite like Libre Office, or buy a newer computer.

Another option would be to install MS Windows using BootCamp or virtualization, but that will require you to purchase a Windows license in addition to a license for Office.

The next step up, Mojave, requires an iMac 2012 or later, so you're kind of stuck. I see from MS's site that even office 2019 requires one of the 3 most recent OS versions.

Along the lines of creative solutions would be to look into free office type applications such as LibreOffice but then they have to know how to make sure they get saved as something the school can read (I really am surprised at a school insisting people have modern computers). Same goes for Apple's free office suite (Pages, Numbers). Libre Office would probably be better at cross platform performance than Apple's stuff.
