phone is muted

My iPhone6 suddenly does not work. The ringer works, signaling an incoming call, but no voice is audible (mine nor the incoming caller). When I make an outging call, it is as if the "mute" button is pressed, but it is. not. People on the other end hear nothing.

Please help! I don't have a landline.

Calls are Muted then are Ended When I am on a phone call with someone, the speaker button suddenly becomes activated, but instead of having the other person on speaker, the sound is muted, and after a few seconds, the call ends.
