iMac, from 2010, macOS 10.13.6 - normal startup, but pointer is frozen. fresh batteries in keyboard and mouse. Shut down by holding down button on back of monitor and restarting, but no change. tried reset PRAM and SMC but no change.

You may need to borrow a wired mouse/keyboard and check that the wireless devices are properly paired (and pair them again if not). https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201178

Thank you for your response. The wired keyboard could get responses from keyboard strokes, but pointer remained frozen in upper left corner. I can hear hard drive chatter - surprising since the computer has been idle with this problem.


With the keyboard, I was finally able to open the "About this Mac" window and retrieve the serial number, so I'll try submitting this situation to the Apple Service Chat.
