How do I know my used phone is still somehow linked to sellers I cloud or any part of Apple ID accounts

I bought a phone from a friend they had it unlocked and factory reset they’ve been having a lot of problems with somehow their new created passwords get changed and they can’t get into their accounts wanting to know if this phone still has any ties to their Apple ID or iCloud if they didn’t sign out before they factory reset it
