Ways to charge iPhone

Can my iPhone 12 Mini be charged via USB on my Macbook Pro OS X Yosemite or can it only be charged via the brick charger that plugs into the power socket..?

MacBook Pro 15″, OS X 10.10

You can use ANY USB socket or adapter that complies with international standards
