Updating numbers

I want to use numbers on my MacBook Air (macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6) I have to go to iCloud each time I try to use it. Can’t seem to update the Numbers app. I don’t always have internet service, so I need to update Numbers itself( when I try to update in App Store, just spins )

Windows, Windows 6

In the version of the Mac App Store on High SIerra, launch it, sign in with the Apple ID that you used to originally obtain Numbers (not Numbers '09 2.3 though), and press the option key when clicking the Purchases tab.

That may or may not reveal an Update button for Numbers. When you click it, you will receive a dialog informing you that you need macOS Catalina before it can be installed. At that point, the Mac App Store may offer to upgrade your Numbers version to v9.1 (last update for High Sierra) — or it may end right there. If it doesn't offer to update Numbers for you, then you are stuck using Numbers for iCloud.

Numbers is not installed as part of the operating system build. It is a layered application that the newly purchased Mac would have installed by Apple as a courtesy app, and it certainly can be removed from the Application folder.

Numbers is not automatically updated by an operating system update or upgrade, and would need to be manually updated via the Mac App Store Update panel if it appears there when a new version is released, or directly from its Mac App Store page as a download.

If the installed version of Numbers is incapable of accessing documents created by the current version of Numbers sent my someone else, then one's only recourse is to use Numbers for iCloud to get around that issue, and a network connection certainly would be required.

Something about your posting doesn't make any sense about having to go to iCloud. Numbers is an app provided by Apple and is installed as part of your operating system. As such, it can not be removed. If you will go to your Applications folder you will find the Numbers app. You can drag it to your Dock and that will create an alias there for you to access. Also, it is not possible to individually update Numbers. It is only updated when you install an OS update or upgrade when appropriate. Access to the internet plays no part in accessing any of your installed apps. I hope this clean up things for you.
