How do I remove root certificates that are re-installed via an itunes/icloud backup when the retired MDM profile is not re-installed from the same backup file?

Hi,

I'm encountering an issue when I restore my device from any itunes/icloud device backup which previously contained MDM profiles. Upon restoration of my device, the profiles are removed, but the root certificates are re-installed without the option to delete them since the profiles are missing. I no longer have access to the retired MDM profiles so I can't reinstall them and delete them to remove the certificates.

Please advise on a fix for this as I'd prefer to not reset my entire iphone and be forced to forego my iphone backup.

Is this your corporate iPhone? Do you have any profile installed by your corporate / organisation / enterprise / School Management then please contact the system administrator of your corporate / organisation / enterprise / School Management

If you have installed any profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...

If you want to turn on SSL trust for that certificate, go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings. Under "Enable full trust for root certificates," turn on trust for the certificate. Apple recommends deploying certificates via Apple Configurator or Mobile Device Management (MDM).

It is my corporate iPhone that I recently switched to a personal line. However, after contacting our IT support team, they’ve informed me my device is not under MDM and they have no ability to remove these certificates because of that. I had never added this device to their MDM and the certificates were a carryover from a prior iPhone backup. Additionally, the certificates installed are from prior MDM that the company had decommissioned several years ago.
